Your furnace moves all the air in your house through its filter several times an hour. A better filter there does more than any tabletop purifier. Most Halden homes still have a 1-inch filter that catches dust but little else.
We install 4- or 5-inch media filter cabinets (MERV 11–13) that catch pollen, pet dander and most wildfire smoke particles, last 6–12 months, and don't choke airflow. For households with asthma, severe allergies or smoke sensitivity, we add electronic air cleaners or UV lights on the coil.
Wildfire smoke from Canadian fires has become a regular summer problem here. A MERV 13 filter with the fan set to On is the single best defense in a closed-up house.
Signs you need this
- Dust returns within days of cleaning
- Allergies or asthma get worse indoors
- Smoke smell in the house during fire season
- You're replacing a 1-inch filter every month
How it works
Check airflow
We measure static pressure to confirm your furnace can handle a better filter.

Cabinet installed on the return. We label the filter size so replacements are easy.
Common questions
Can I just put a MERV 13 1-inch filter in?
Often not. A thick filter in a 1-inch slot can restrict airflow and make the furnace overheat. A 4-inch cabinet has more surface area and doesn't.
Do UV lights work?
They keep the AC coil free of mold and bacterial growth. They do little for dust or pollen. We recommend them for specific problems, not for everyone.
Do ionizers produce ozone?
Some do. We only install air cleaners certified for low or zero ozone.
